March
March
• Soil cultivation and fertilization continue for all types of field crop cultivation. Plowed soil is broken up with rakes and harrows, ensuring proper tillage in cereal crops. The second nitrogen application is carried out in areas where autumn sowing is done.
• Summer cereal sowing continues. In areas with suitable climate, establishment of tobacco seedbeds, cotton planting, as well as sowing of grasslands, pastures, and forage crops begin.
• Where irrigation is possible, the fields are given the necessary irrigation, while excess water is drained.
• Emphasis should be placed on pest control in autumn-sown cereals.
Field Agriculture
• Areas and existing facilities where fruits can be collectively grown are plowed and fertilized.
• Planting of saplings continues in many areas.
• Pruning and grafting of fruits continue. Care should be taken to prevent frost damage as stone fruits can bloom in warm areas. Newly established fruit orchards are given irrigation.
• Efforts should continue against various damages and diseases. Especially, caution should be exercised against pear psylla, pear sucker, and olive moth.
• Citrus harvesting continues. Packaging and marketing of citrus fruits also continue.
Vegetable Cultivation
• Harvesting continues for early tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchinis, and similar vegetables in greenhouses.
• The first pricking out of vegetables planted in hotbeds and greenhouses is carried out.
• Soil cultivation continues in vegetable gardens, and the soil is fertilized to prepare for planting.
• Tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants start to be transplanted into trays.
• Watering is given to transplanted and trayed seedlings. If pricking out hasn't been done yet, weeding should be carried out. Weeding, especially for beans and peas, begins.
• Control measures against pests and diseases continue in gardens, greenhouses, and hotbeds.
Viticulture
• Soil cultivation and fertilization continue in areas where vineyards will be established and in existing facilities.
• Planting of rooted and unrooted vine cuttings continues.
• Pruning of vineyards is completed by the end of the month in areas without the risk of frost. In areas with frost risk, pruning is delayed until after the frost. Grafting begins in relatively warm climates and temperate regions.
• Control measures against diseases and pests are implemented. In cold regions, vines are washed with Bordeaux mixture before buds burst.
Animal Husbandry
• In some places, there is a slowdown in barn work due to animals being taken to pasture. However, in the Eastern Anatolia Region, barn cleaning, ventilation, and disinfection continue.
• Supplementary feed is provided to animals taken to pasture. Feeding and care of animals in the barn also continue.
• Caution should be exercised regarding ongoing birthing activities.
• Pasture improvement works are carried out in areas where grazing is initiated. Particularly, rotational grazing not only protects pastures but also allows for longer utilization.
• With the onset of spring, preventive vaccinations against possible outbreaks and pests are administered.
Poultry Farming
• Maintenance, cleaning, and disinfection continue in the poultry houses. The windows of the poultry houses are covered with wire mesh to prevent entry of animals such as cats, dogs, foxes, and martens, as well as birds.
• Due to the hatching season, attention is given to tasks related to this purpose. Suitable eggs for breeding are selected, and production is carried out.
• Special attention is paid to the nutrition of newly hatched chicks, and various feeds that promote their growth are selected.
• Preventive vaccinations against poultry diseases are administered, and preventive medications are continued. This is especially important for chicks.
Beekeeping
• In some areas, beekeepers continue hive maintenance in preparation for bees going outside. Frames of the hives are repaired, and moldy or broken frames are replaced with new ones.
• Since bees start collecting nectar, maintenance tasks increase, so beekeeping equipment should always be kept in working condition.
• Spring cleaning is done in the hives and necessary medications are used to ensure there are no diseases.
